CALMING YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM

To have a calm and regulated nervous system, now that is what I consider the definition of true success. I will start this blog by sharing a personal story about myself.

When I was 19 years old, I moved out of my parents house for the first time and left to live in a completely different state. I lived with my “high school sweetheart” and his parents for the first year. This is the time in my life where I started to experience uncontrolled panic/anxiety attacks, for the very first time, ever. The only person that got to see me during this state was my romantic partner. I remember I would lay there shaking uncontrollably and he would hold me still, trying to calm me down. I was not aware at that time of what was happening to me or why it was happening. I kept quiet and never told my parents or siblings about these moments in my life. Matter of fact, I never spoke to anyone about this until just recently to my therapist.

I am sharing about it now because I have learned that there is so much power behind our own stories and perhaps sharing about it will help someone feel less alone.

You are NOT alone, trust me. Most humans have dealt with or are currently dealing with an unregulated nervous system causing them to live in fight or flight mode. I have been listening to a lot of podcasts and reading more on this specific subject because I strongly believe in the importance of feeling balanced and in harmony. It is seriously the best feeling. When you feel in harmony with yourself internally, by having a balanced nervous system, then your exterior also starts to flow in that same frequency and life is just much more enjoyable. When my nervous system is regulated, I feel like I can react differently and with more coherence to unexpected life events, whether they be good or not so good. I am able to perceive things from a different perspective and can think more clearly.

I did not have these resources in my awareness at the age of 19 when I first experienced the anxiety/panic attacks. That is why I am here now, sharing as much information as I have been called to share with the world. If you happen to be reading this, just know that this information was meant to arrive into your space & awareness for a good reason.

Over the years, I was able to distract myself from this feeling of anxiety by surrounding myself with friends and activities that kept my mind busy and my body moving. At that moment, that is what I found to be helpful so that is exactly what I did. Surrounding yourself with people that truly care for you and your wellbeing, creating healthy habits, finding what your true passions are through self-exploration and recreating yourself along the journey as many times as you need to/want to!

There are many magical ways that one can regulate its nervous system. I will share the tools and resources that have helped me personally along the way. These practices are not always linear and sometimes you have to explore around and see what will help at that time.

  • Breathwork has been a big help of release for me. It helps me release blocked trauma from my past. It also helps me find grounding and in moments when I feel like my mind is all over the place, it helps me find quiet & peace within.

  • Yoga and meditation are daily rituals that also help with finding that grounding energy and connecting with my true essence and higher purpose.

  • They are pretty much a non-negotiable for me, together with other daily rituals like journaling, slow mornings, actually stepping outside into nature for some grounding contact with the Earth, romanticizing my life as much as I want to and also allowing my days to be mundane and “boring.”

  • I started participating in cold plunges out on the lake by my house and around the same time started working at a wellness center that offers me unlimited infrared sauna sessions. How abundant and rich do I feel with these luxuries the Universe/God has provided for me. I am divine and so are you.

  • Time out in nature can also be so healing during times of unbalanced energy and just minutes of breathing fresh air can help restore and recharge your human battery. Also helping you find coherence within your nervous system.

  • Building community and having a strong support system have helped me immensely throughout the years when it comes to my healing journey, dealing with stressful situations or even very rockbottom moments in my life. I cannot emphasize this enough, but surrounding yourself with people that genuinely want the best for you and offer their unconditional love and support no matter the circumstances, will make such a big difference in bringing in harmony and joy into your life.

You must get to know yourself and sit through some very uncomfortable moments in order to get to know what triggers your nervous system and what area in your life perhaps requires some attention and deeper understanding. That is what is so beautiful and exciting to me, is the fact that I get to wake up every day and recreate myself in certain areas and then get to know myself all over again. Adding more play and more fun to my day to day. This also helps with regulating my nervous system because I learn to let go of the need to control everything in my life and I learn to just let go and follow my heart’s intuition. By following your heart you are in coherence with the frequencies that will bring that balance to your nervous system and you can also live your life at your highest, most authentic vibration.

Wishing you a peaceful and wholesome life. ♥♥♥
